Masters Programme in Economics This is a two-year Master’s programme, spread into four semesters, which imparts students with a rigorous and hands-on training in economics, structured in a balanced way to cater the need of students coming from Urdu medium and also from the main stream education system. Emphasis is given to develop analytical and problem solving skills in the students. The programme also exposure them to policy issues at the national and international levels. This programme involves a successful completion of 14 courses and a master’s thesis.

Intake, Admission and Eligibility

  • Intake
    The Masters Programme in Economics has an intake capacity of 20 (twenty) seats.
  • Admission Process
    The admission shall be offered on merit basis. The merit list would be based on the percentage of marks obtained in qualifying examinations. A ‘cut-offs’ will be decided by the admission committee and the same will be notified in the merit list which be posted on university’s website. Selected candidates will be individually informed by post. However candidates are encouraged to visit the university website (www.manuu.ac.in) to avoid the postal delay. The students may also secure information from the department/ university through email (eco.manuu@gmail.com) about admission related issues.
  • Eligibility
    Graduation or equivalent degree with minimum 40% marks from any institution recognized by the university. Preference will be given to students with Economics, Management, Accounting and Finance, Statistics or Mathematics background.
    Studied Urdu either as a subject or as a medium of instruction at 10th /12th /Graduation level or have certificate from a recognized institution.
    The reservation of the Seats for SCs/STs/OBCs/PWD shall be as per the university rules. Any further details may be secured from the latest Prospectus of the university .
  • Rules and Regulations
    • Credits and Marks
      A student will be evaluated out of 64 credits equivalent to 1600 marks equally divided into four semesters of 400 marks each.
    • Examination Pattern for Theory Papers
      Each theory paper shall be of 100 marks and shall be examined on the basis of semester end exams (70 marks per paper) and internal assessment (30 marks per paper). In semester end exams, each theory paper shall have ten questions, two questions from each unit with internal choice.
      The internal assessment is to be done on the basis of assignments, tests, term papers and presentations with the course teacher.
  • Master’s Thesis
    The Master’s Thesis has been kept as an integral part of the Master’s curriculum. The aim is that the students should be aware of theoretical as well empirical work and it would be able to help them in their future research. It is assumed that during the exercise the students would learn various skills such as developing a problem, making theoretical sense of the arguments, collecting primary and secondary data, analyzing it and presenting the research outcome.
    The evaluation of the submitted master’s thesis would be in three parts. The thesis will be of total 100 marks which will be divided in three parts as follow.
    50 marks on evaluation of submitted master’s thesis, 20 marks on presentation and 30 marks on viva-voice
    Students should follow the format to write the Master’s Thesis as follow Font: Times New Roman; Font Size: 12 With Single Spacing Rule; Number of Pages: 50 (Maximum) On A4 Size Paper.
    The department will assign faculty to the students to supervise in their thesis write up for Master’s programme.
  • Passing Marks
    A student would require a minimum of 33 % marks in aggregate in each paper and 50 % marks in Master’s thesis.
  • Attendance
    A minimum of 75% attendance in theory classes is compulsory to be eligible to appear in the semester examinations. Student who fall short of attendance and have valid medical reasons for absenteeism, the head of the department may give a relaxation in the required percentage of attendance by not more than 10 per cent during the semester. That in case of absence for one month (constantly), the name will be removed from the attendance register through the due process.
  • Promotion and Examination Rules
    To be eligible for promotion from one semester to next semester, the student must pass at least 50% of the total theory papers in previous semesters. Further, if a student fails in all papers in semester-I then her/his admission shall be cancelled. However, if she/he so wishes to pursue the course then she/he has to apply afresh i.e. she/he has to apply again and complete the admission process.
    The students who are required to clear the theory papers of any semester shall do so at the time of the corresponding examination of the concerned semester next year. No special examination shall be conducted.
    The students who have passed but desire to improve in any number of papers shall do so at the time of the corresponding semester-end examination next year.
    Students shall not be provided with an opportunity to repeat or improve or re-evaluate their internal assessment / viva-voce.
    The re-evaluation of theory papers shall be as per the university rules notified from time to time.
    Degree shall be awarded to those who pass all the theory courses and defend master’s thesis as per prescribed norms of the university.
    The students have to complete the course within the maximum duration of four years (eight semesters) from the year of their admission.
