Brief Introduction:

The Department of Political Science & Public Administration, established in 2006, offers M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D. in Public Administration. The Department has received very good response from the students for admission in PG as well as research Programmes.

V. Conferences/Seminars/Workshops/Lectures organized by the Department:

National Seminar on Budget 2009:

The Department has organized a National Seminar on ‘Impact and Implications of the Union Budget (2009-10) on Common Man’, on 18^th July, 2009 at MANUU Campus, Hyderabad. Prof. Furqan Qamar, Advisor (Education) Planning Commission, Govt. of India inaugurated the seminar and delivered keynote address. Prof. K.R.Iqbal Ahmed, I/c VC, MANUU presided over the inaugural session. Prof. N.Linga Murthy, Hon’ble VC, Kakatiya University, Waranagal, Prof. G.Haragopal, Dept of Political Science HCU, Prof. I. Ramabrahmam, HOD Political Science, HCU and Prof. N.Vijaya, Director, Distance Education, Kakatiya University, Warangal participated as experts. The seminar was a huge success with the participation of experts from the fields of Economics, Political Science, Public Administration and Public Policy. Prof. S.M. Rahmatullah, Dean and HOD was the coordinator of the seminar.

Guest Lecture on American Foreign Policy:

The Department organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Obama Administration: New Faces, Debates and Trends in U.S. Foreign Policy’, by an expert on U.S. Foreign Policy, Dr. Rodney Jones, President, Policy Architects International on 20^th October, 2009. The Programme was presided over by Prof. K.R. Iqbal Ahmed, I/c VC, MANUU. Ms. Juliet Wurr, Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate, Hyderabad also spoke briefly about Indo-American relations. The lecture led to interesting debate on the foreign policy of Obama Aministration with the active participation of the audience. The programme was organized with the collaboration of US Consulate, Hyderabad. Prof. S.M. Rahmatullah, Dean and HOD coordinated the Lecture.

Academic Activities of the Department:

The Department organized a study Tour to Srisailam as part of co-curricular activity.

The Department started a monthly lecture series on current and important issues.

First lecture was organized on “Environmental Issues”. Dr.Syed Maqbool Ahmed and Dr. Faheem Akhtar of DDE MANUU delivered the lectures.

Second lecture of the series was on “Right to Education Act” 2010. The Lecture was delivered by Mohd. Ali Rafath, IAS; State Project Director Rajiv Vidya Mission. (Sarva Siksha Abhyan)

The Department is maintaining News, views and Thoughts Board, providing information on society economy and administration to empower the students, on weekly basis.

5. Process of Admissions , Examinations and Eligibility Criteria

· M.A in Public Administration:

Process of Admission: Admission will be on the basis of merit. There will be no entrance test.

Eligibility Criteria: Any graduate of any recognized university with 40% aggregate marks.

Preference will be given to those students who have studied Public Administration and/or Political Science at the graduation level.

The candidate should have studied Urdu as one of the subjects’ up to 10^th Class or above.

· M.Phil in Public Administration:

Process of Admission: Admission through entrance test. The candidates having JRF/NET, SLET are exempted from the entrance test.

Eligibility Criteria: Those who have passed M.A (Public Administration or Political Science) with 55% marks OR have passed UGC JRF/ NET or SLET exams.

· PhD in Public Administration (Full Time & Part Time):

Process of Admission: Admission through entrance test. The candidates having M.Phil/JRF/NET, SLET are exempted from the entrance test.

Eligibility Criteria: Those who have passed M.Phil in Public Administration or Political Science with 55% marks OR have passed UGC JRF/ NET or SLET exams OR those who have passed MA in Public Administration or Political Science and have two years of teaching experience in degree colleges (those who have passed MA with 50% marks but appointed as lecturer prior to 1996 UGC rules, are also eligible) OR those who have published atleast three research articles in reputed academic journals.
