About Library

              

The MANUU Library was established in the year 1998.

The Library has rich Urdu collection comprising of monographs, reference works etc.

The Library is subscribing around 35 current periodicals in Urdu, 135 in English, 9 in Hindi and 17 popular magazines apart from 13 Newspapers in four languages i.e. Urdu, English, Telugu and Hindi.

Library conducts student’s orientation classes for students of each department every year regularly, soon after the academic admissions are over.

All sections of the Library are computerized and the documents can be searched on OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) within the Library.

The Central Library has shifted to its independent newly constructed building in Dec. 2008.  The Central Library is most modular, functional and uses modern technology for its operations and Paging system for announcements.

Library collection is totally automated with Library Software, Bar code and  theft detection system using 3M tattle tape technology.

It has CD/DVD Mirror Software, by which Encyclopedias, Directories, Hand books, etc., can be stored on the Server, and can be accessed on all the nodes on Intranet on the Campus.

 The audio visual section of the Library has TV, MP3 system, Video cassettes, VCD’s, Audio cassettes of ELTS, TOEFEL, GMAT, etc.  

Library has shifted to web-enabled user friendly “NewGenLib” Library Software which is based on Unicode, by which documents data can be entered and accessed in Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Hindi and all regional languages. The Software is based on Linux, which does not have virus effect.

 

Future Plans:                         

The Central Library is planning to go for CCTV Surveillance Cameras and Biometric device in the new library building.

It is further planning to host its collection on Web, through which a user can view all the collection of the Library i.e. books, journals etc., from his place, without actually visiting Library.

Apart from the above sections, the Library has a beautiful Auditorium equipped with all modern amenities, with a seating capacity of 150, and book exhibition area, wherein book sellers and publishers  are invited for exhibition.

The Committee meets twice a year, preferably in the month of December and June.

 

 

MEMBERSHIP & GUIDELINES

·  The Library is primarily for the use of faculty, research scholars, students,

   and non-teaching employees of the University.

· On special request, outsiders are also admitted for a short period for conducting research with written permission of the Librarian.

· The privilege of borrowing books form the Library is restricted to the members only.

· To become a member, a person has to fill out a registration form and submit it at the circulation counter. Non-teaching employees must send their forms attested by the concerned Assistant Registrar.

· All the members should return books borrowed from the Library before they proceed on a long period of leave and obtain a “No due certificate” from the Library

· Retired Faculty and Ex-students are also admitted as “special members” and allowed to borrow books from the Library against security deposit of Rs.500/- and such members will be issued one Library ticket for the purpose.

· An over due charge of Rs. 1.00 per day per volume will be collected for late return of the books borrowed by them.

· The borrowing facility is restricted to the local members only.  Also they must borrow books personally form the Library.

· The Librarian reserves the right to allow more books on special request if any.

·    A book will be issued to the borrower against production of Library Borrower Card issued by the University Library.

·     Loose issues and bound volumes of periodicals are not for issue.

·     All members shall obtain a “No due” certificate for refund of caution money or for other purpose after surrendering the Library borrower card and also paying any dues outstanding against them.

·    The Librarian reserves the right to recall any book from any member at any time.

·    The Librarian may shorten the loan period, if the books are on special demand.

·     Books loaned may be renewed for a further period provided no other reader has reserved the same.

·     A member can reserve a book, which is on loan by filling a prescribed form available, at the circulation counter.

 

 LOSS OF LIBRARY BORROWER CARD AND BOOKS

  • The members are responsible for the Library Borrower Card issued to them.  Loss of Library Borrower Card should be reported to the circulation section immediately.  Duplicate Library Borrower Card will be issued on payment of Rs. 50/- after two weeks time from the date of application.
  • Members shall be responsible for any loss, which Library may suffer through the loss or misuse of their Library Borrower Card.  Members found using the Library Borrower Card they have declared at lost will be charged a sum of Rs. 50/-.
  • In case of loss of book by the borrower he/she shall either replace the book with the same edition or latest edition.  If the replacement is not done within 15 days, the defaulter will be charged three times the cost of the book, if the book is in print, or four times the cost of the book, if the book is out of print.
  • If the book of a multi volume set is damaged or lost the member concerned shall be liable to replace the whole set or pay the cost of the entire set on the above lines.

 

OVERDUE CHARGES

· The Library will charge an overdue charge of Re. 1.00 per book per day.

  • The Librarian reserves the right to waive overdue charges at his discretion under special circumstances. 

SPECIAL SERVICES

·  Free Box facility, wherein the duplicate issues of Journals are kept to be taken by faculty without any liability.

  • Bibliographical search from the library database on request.

INTER-LIBRARY LOAN

  • The library has provision for Inter-Library loan with other libraries both within the twin cities and outside, members can avail of this facility.

  • Books received on Inter-Library loan are for consultation in the Library only against the Identity card.
  • If the item is not available on Inter-Library loan, the Library can request for a photocopy but the charges shall be borne by the member concerned.

 RESERVE COLLECTION

  • The course books are kept under this category and they are available for reference only.

 

 GENERAL RULES & FACILITIES

  • Library Borrower Card is not transferable.

  • Members shall observe silence in the reading halls.
  • Members shall not engage in conversation in any part of the Library so as to cause annoyance to any other reader.
  • Members shall not smoke, or spit in any part of the Library.
  • Members shall not write upon, damage or mark any book belonging to the Library.
  • Members are responsible for any damage caused by them to the books or any other property belonging to the Library and shall be required to pay the penalty imposed upon them by the Librarian.
  • In case a book is damaged or pages are missing at the time of borrowing a book, the member shall bring this to the notice/record to the Librarian before borrowing the book. Otherwise he/she shall be held responsible for these damages noticed at time of return.
  • Members shall not bring personal belongings and Library books issued to them inside the Library.
  • Members leaving the Library should stop at the exit so that the materials borrowed or taken out of the Library by them may be checked.
  • Upon any infringement of the Library rules members shall forfeit the privileges of admission and membership of the Library.
  • The Librarian reserves the right to suspend the membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the Library staff or behaving in an indecent manner.
  • The members caught tearing pages/stealing of books will be suspended forthwith from using the Library facilities and the University will initiate further disciplinary action against them.

HOURS OF THE LIBRARY                            

  • The library will be kept open on all working days from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m, extended during the examinations till 8.30 P.M.
  • The above timings are subject to change from time to time as notified on the notice board.
